Guys, I have been on a health kick since the New Year started.
Eating healthier? Yep.
Working-out more? That too!
I had absolutely no intention of putting a chocolate Valentine candy on the blog….but I was shopping, and I happened upon a heart-shaped chocolate mold that was just too cute to pass up!
I bought the chocolate mold, brought it home, and we have had so much fun with it! My girls thought it was the best thing ever...it blew their minds that we were making our own heart-shaped chocolates!
This quick and easy recipe comes together in about 10 minutes, and it makes one of the tastiest DIY valentine candies ever!
Recipe Details…
Originally the idea was to make a copycat Toblerone chocolate candy. As I was recipe testing for the honey and almond filling, I realized that I had used more honey than what I was going to need...it was too liquidy and too sweet.
Instead of starting over, I thought I would add more nuts to the mixture, but then my bag of almonds went MIA. Seriously, I had just sat the bag of almonds down, and they were nowhere to be found. The chocolate had already been melted, and I needed to work quickly before it started to harden. So, I grabbed my cacao nibs and added them to the mixture. Wow! Let me tell you, sometimes mistakes happen for a reason. Holy Batman! The cacao nibs took the filling to next-level-good! It’s just the perfect combination of crunchy, sweet, gooey, nutty!
Ingredients
Dark Chocolate 80% or greater
Coconut oil
Equipment
Silicone Mold - Heart Shaped, optional
How to Make Honey Almond Dark Chocolate with Cacao Nibs
Chop the chocolate bars and add to a bowl with ⅛ teaspoon coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals until melty and smooth.
While chocolate is melting, add honey, almonds, and cacao nibs to a small bowl and mix together.
Pour a small amount of chocolate into each heart, then tilt mold around to evenly spread chocolate over the bottom and sides. Then turn the mold upside down over the melted chocolate bowl to remove excess, being sure you leave enough chocolate in the mold to coat the bottom and sides of the candy. Scrape excess chocolate off the top of the mold.
Next, add the filling to the center of each chocolate mold. Be sure to leave enough room on the sides and top. Last, pour melted dark chocolate over the filling. Tap chocolate mold gently on the countertop to ensure there are no air pockets.
Let the chocolate harden at room temperature on the kitchen countertop, or in the refrigerator for a faster setting time. Once the chocolate has completely set, gently pop the heart-shaped Honey Almond Dark Chocolates out of the silicone mold and enjoy.
How to Store Homemade Dark Chocolate Candy
These DIY valentine candies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week. They would make a great addition to a Valentine-themed charcuterie board. Or, make your own DIY Valentine's Box for a super fun gift!
