Why It’s The Best Apple Strawberry Smoothie
There are plenty of strawberry smoothie recipes out there, but this one is incredible! Want to know why it’s the best smoothie?
- It’s quick and easy, toss it all in the blender, and it’s ready in just a few minutes.
- It’s made with only real, whole food ingredients without added juices or artificial sweeteners, or flavors.
- The added fiber from the apple helps with digestion and keeps you full longer than other fruit smoothies.
- It’s naturally gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free, vegetarian.
Smoothie Ingredients
STRAWBERRIES – You can use frozen strawberries for this recipe, but I’m a big fan of using fresh fruit when it’s in season. Occasionally I buy strawberries that aren’t sweet and almost bitter. If you notice your berries aren’t sweet enough for your smoothie, consider adding 1-2 tablespoons of honey to sweeten it up a bit.
APPLE – I normally use Fuji or Gala apples in my smoothies, but any sweet juicy apple will work!
BANANA – Fresh or frozen bananas will work! Don’t like bananas? Try adding half an avocado or ½ cup of plain or vanilla yogurt to your smoothie.
HEAVY CREAM – Cream gives this smoothie that amazing creamy milkshake consistency. If you don't consume dairy or need a smoothie with less fats, feel free to use any plant-based milk or low/non-fat dairy.
ICE - For extra hydration without extra calories, I like to add ice to my smoothies.
How To Make
This easy smoothie contains no added sugars or juices. Smooth, creamy, and vibrant this is the best tasting fruit smoothie!
- Core and roughly chop the apple
- Place banana, strawberries, apple, cream, and ice in a blender.
- Blend on high speed until the smoothie is creamy and smooth, about 1- 1 ½ minutes.
Recipe Variations & Substitutions
- Heavy Cream - Using a small amount of heavy cream in this smoothie is what makes this drink so decadent and creamy, but feel free to use any plant-based milk (or dairy) of your choice. Almond milk, soy milk, and coconut milk work well with the apple strawberry flavor.
- Apple Strawberry Smoothie Without Banana - If you’d like to omit the banana but still enjoy a creamy smoothie, I suggest replacing the banana with ½ of an avocado or a ½ cup of plain or vanilla yogurt. Regular yogurt, Greek yogurt, or plant-based yogurt will all work.
- Fresh Strawberries - Can’t find fresh strawberries? Frozen will work just fine! Or, swap out strawberries for fresh peaches or pineapple.
Smoothie Add-Ins
This apple strawberry smoothie is delicious as is, but if you want to jazz things up a bit, here are some additional options to toss in the blender!
- 1-2 tablespoons of hemp seeds
- ¼-½ cup of plain or vanilla-flavored yogurt (regular or Greek).
- ½ cup ice cream or dairy-free ice cream.
- For a tropical flavored smoothie, add in ½ cup of fresh or frozen pineapple, and/or ¼ cup shredded coconut
Easy Meal Prep/Make-Ahead Smoothie Tips
For a quick grab-and-go breakfast smoothie, consider making this recipe the night before.
- Smoothie Storage - This smoothie can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
- Freezer Storage - Smoothies may be frozen for up to three months. After blending your smoothie ingredients, pour them into airtight freezer-friendly containers and freeze. To thaw, take your frozen drink out of the freezer the night before and let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
Protein Strawberry Smoothie
Enjoying your smoothie as a meal replacement or want a more macronutrient balanced smoothie?
Consider adding whey protein powder, collagen protein powder, or a plant-based protein powder. A plain or vanilla flavored protein powder works best for the flavors in this apple strawberry smoothie.
Add the recommended protein serving size, usually 1-2 scoops in the blender, and blend up with the rest of your ingredients.
Always talk with your doctor before starting any supplements, including protein powders, and I don’t suggest giving protein powder to children.
